During my time as an intern at Seagate Technology, I designed an internal portal application that offers a wide variety of resources to Seagate employees whenever and wherever they may need it. The mySeagate application includes an on-boarding program created for new hires and interns to help streamline and expedite their experiences as they assimilate in their first weeks at the company.

PROBLEM
Seagate does not have a mobile application that allows employees to access resources found on the Seagate website, including maps, the employee directory, Workday, and payroll.

SOLUTION
MySeagate will include a wide variety of resources that will be accessible from the home page dashboard of the application.

Another feature that is offered will be an on-boarding feature that will provide key resources for a new hire at a high level. It will also serve as a checklist for new hires to reference during their first weeks at the company.

USER INTERVIEWS
I spoke with eight Seagate employees and interns to understand the key resources and features they find themselves needing the most. The final points came down to:

  1. Brand Decks/Brand Portal

    • Presentation decks for BOTH Seagate and Lacie

    • Employees should know that these are available and made

  2. Product Training

    • Product/Sector/Hard Drive Overview

  3. Team Member Breakdown

    • Contact Information

  4. Maps of Buildings

    • Facilities Tour (Quick walk through of where things are)

  5. Acronym Dictionary
